(A note on the influence of Friedman's methodology on some Italian authors)
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to consider the influence of Friedman’s methodological position on di Fenizio
and Graziani between the fifties and the sixties. Both these authors used Friedman’s empiricist
view to promote changes in the Italian economic thought: di Fenizio supported the Keynesian revolution
and Graziani tried to overcome the traditional and deductivistic approach to economic problems.
The analysis points out two results: on the one hand, the epistemological discussions emerge
in periods of theoretical transition, and, on the other hand, it is possible to consider in a different way
the significance of Friedman’s instrumentalism.
