The first essay contains Einaudi’s critique to the theory of vital spaces, based on an undue interpretation of the theory of increasing returns to scale. The second contribution reveals Einaudi’s idea that the optimal dimension of State agency in favour of economic development is that of a worldwide government. The European Union is only a means to this end, which preserves common ideals of civilisation, culture and religion.
