(Social economy in the thought of J.-Ch.-L De Sismondi and G. Toniolo: a comparison under the banner of continuity)
Abstract: Sismondi died in 1842. Toniolo was born in 1845. Almost a passing of the baton. The ‘Tuscan model’
as a common reference. The sign of continuity, emerges on the issues of method, on the approach to
economic science, in its links to the ethics and law. Because if «the ideas rule the facts», this is not true
for abstract ideas. Capitalism and socialism appear equally distant. Because if it is true that labor is
not a commodity, it is also true that liberty and private property are intangible. Thus, the relevance
of their contribution emerges in times of crisis, economic and financial, but also political, social and
