Corbino’s judgement on that battle is twofold: it was a tactical victory for the better built German battleships but a strategic victory for the British, because at the Battle of Jutland the German Fleet suffered so much damage that it made no further attempt to challenge the ‘Grand Fleet’ and the British blockade. Corbino was neither a naval historian nor an expert in strategic studies. His book stands out for its unusual and totally neutral approach towards that battle but did not have a following in subsequent studies of maritime military doctrine.
