Some economists, in particular, tried to establish a general economic theory of the war. Among these scholars, the A. examines Maffeo Pantaleoni and his attempt to explain the economic effects of the war through the traditional tools used by the marginalist theory, even if with questionable results. Arthur Cecil Pigou – the other economist investigated by the A. – researched a macroeconomic theory of the war, explaining the effects that the conflict produces on the balance of the State. In conclusion, two very different authors perceived a common need, that of reaffirming the economics’ capability to deal with all the problems arising in the society.
